It depends on what you want to keep running and for how long. A typical household that wants lights, Wi-Fi, TV, fridges and a few plugs through a four-hour outage needs roughly a 5 kW inverter with 5 to 10 kWh of battery; adding panels then cuts the daytime bill. We size on your actual bill, not a rule of thumb.
For backup only, an inverter and battery is enough and costs less. Panels are what reduce the bill and recharge the battery during the day, so most people who can afford it add them at the start or later.
Not usually on a standard home system; they draw too much. Most installations leave the geyser, stove and oven on the grid and put the rest of the house on backup. A solar geyser or heat pump is the better way to cut water heating costs.
Yes. Any change to your electrical installation, including an inverter, needs an Electrical Certificate of Compliance signed by a registered person. Insurers ask for it after a claim and it is required when you sell.
In most municipalities, yes, and grid-tied systems certainly. The rules differ by area; we handle the small-scale embedded generation paperwork as part of the installation where it applies.
A standard home system takes one to two days on site once the equipment is in stock. Larger commercial arrays are scheduled by phase so the business keeps trading.
